Our Story.

I'm Karoline & my sweet husband is Steven.
We were married on April twenty-seventh, two thousand & thirteen.
He turned twenty-four shortly after, & I will turn twenty in thirty-two days!
He studies Economics & Finance.
I study Spanish.
We are both ballroom dancers, currently dancing for Brigham Young University.
Which leads to how we met.
Two years ago, I was a brand new freshman at BYU.  I was so excited to be in college & dancing with older, more 'mature' people.  A whole semester went by & the only thing I knew about Steven was that he was the guy on the dance team with a freckle on his eye.  That next semester, my best friend Nathan, was in the same technique class as Steven.  He would always make fun of Steven during team rehearsals.  I told Nate to tell Steven that he should date me.  Nothing ever came of that.  So, I had an interesting Spring & Summer semester with Kelli, my long-time roommate.  We meet two punks, Josh & Conner.  We made lots of food, had parties in the canyon, & adventured in the best places of the Northwest (Pullayup, Seattle, Gresham & Portland).  Then Fall semester started.
On the second day of classes, I got a call from the director of the Back-up Tour team, inviting me to be a member of his team.  I was beyond excited!!
So, I was dancing & studying & just being a college kid.  (A less mellow version of most college kids.  Kelli, Melanie, & I liked to stay inside, rather than be social.)  Things were great.  Come fall & General Conference.  Kelli, Melanie, & I attended the General Relief Society Meeting with my mother & grandmother.  Coming away from this meeting, I was convinced I wouldn't get married for a long, long time & that I would marry a good friend who was currently serving an LDS mission.
Then, the prophet announced that women could serve missions now at the age of nineteen, & everyone went crazy.  After much consideration, I decided serving a mission wasn't something in my near future, & should reconsider at the end of the school & dance year.
Not to long after, in team rehearsals we began a new routine.  My partner for part of the routine was Steven.  At the time we was busy with interviews for jobs after he graduated.  On day he told me he would be gone that Friday, & asked if the following Monday I would help him learn what he missed.  I said yes, then he winked at me, asked if I wanted to go get breakfast with him & some of the other kids on the team, & my heart melted.  At this breakfast the topic of dating came up & Steven said he doesn't date because his roommates are to entertaining & he doesn't have time.  So, I threw away my hopes of dating Steven Fisher.
So, Monday rolled around, & I met up with Steven to teach him what he had missed.  It took about ten minutes.  Then we walked back to the Richards Building & talked all about me (he wanted to know 'what makes Karoline, Karoline).  Then he said something about how I must be busy dating boys all the time.  I let him in on  a secret:  boys at BYU don't ask girls on dates.  With that he said, "You are going out with me!"  He never gave me the chance to decline (not that I would have).
The next day he texted me asking for ideas for our date.  He ask if I had time to meet at the near-by Jamba juice for a smoothie & discussion.  (Steven considers this our first date, but he is really wrong.)  Wednesday, he called saying he just picked up pizza from a place near my apartment & came over to share it with me.  I was so shocked that he wanted to come over.  We spent three hours that night eating pizza & playing Cat's Cradle.  On Tuesday we had been talking, & I mentioned Dr. Who.  Steven told me he would watch an episode with me, so we made plans for Thursday.  I made dinner & we watched Dr. Who & then Hitch.  Friday was Kelli's performance in the Fall Opera & Josh's birthday.  After the opera we got Steven & had some frozen yogurt.  Then we watched a really boring movie.
That night Steven kissed me.  He was extremely nervous & kept moving his hand on & off my shoulder, I still make fun of him for it.  Then we ate Progresso soup on his kitchen floor.
The following day, Saturday, was the Timpview High School Ballroom Competition.  Steven went with me to watch.  He also got to meet my mother because she was selling dance skirts there.  There was never really any specific moment either of just asked if the other would be our 'significant other'.  We just sort-of decided we were dating.
Things were great & terrifying.  Steven was deciding what to do about his future.  He was pretty close to graduating, but didn't get any offers he liked during fall recruiting.  I got really scared he was going to graduate & just leave me in Provo.
Steven half-surprised me with plane tickets to Houston to visit him over Christmas break.  (By half-surprised I mean, I was there when he bought them, he surprised me by wanting me to come.)
We had a three week break that year.  The first week I was in Disneyland with my family, we Skyped everyday.  The following week he was on a cruise with his family, we Skyped as often as we could, considering he had to pay for internet.  The next week I flew out to Houston.
It was a blast! I got to meet his whole family, & fell in love with his nieces Bethany & Becca ( I tell Steven they are the reason I married him).  We went to NASA, the aquarium, had a firework show, & played lots of games (my favorite being shooting army men with dart guns).
One night we were watch Ocean's 11 in his movie room, we were both tired, but trying to finish the movie.  Steven told me, "I think I love you."
Now I had been hoping for a long time he would tell me that, but I was not expecting it then, & replied, "If you really mean that, tell me again in the morning."
Then we went to bed.  He still teases me about that.
When we returned from Texas we started a new semester.  By the end of January we had decided we wanted to get married.  He talked to my dad, we set a date, & told our parents.
Next step, get a ring.
Well this took FOREVER.  Steven's friend had a contact in LA that would be able to help us custom design a ring & get it at a good price.
We thought this was great, we just didn't know it would take five weeks.
So while we were waiting for the ring, my mom, roommates, & I started secretly planning my wedding. (We didn't want to announce it until we had my official ring.)
So during this time four of my friends got engaged & we all discussing wedding planning.  It was so frustrating that I wasn't able to join in, even though I had so much good advice.
So, I kept tabs on when my ring would be done, & Steven told me it would be done the twenty-seventh or twenty eighth of February.  This worried me because we had scheduled our engagement pictures for the first of March.  So I thought I had it all figured out, there was no way Steven could surprise me.
So, Tuesday the twenty-sixth, we went out to dinner.  We went to a little outdoor mall in Provo.
We ate dinner & after we were done, Steven gave me a poem he had written for me.  He had mentioned this before, so I didn't think much of it.
So, picture this.  The restaurant is on a conner & to the left of it is a cute archway, tunnel thing, & to the left of that are some more shops, one being an old-fashioned toy store.
My mom & I had been talking about getting old soda bottles to use for our engagement pictures, & she said this toy store would be a good place to look.  So, I told Steven & tried to get him to come with me.  But he put up a big fuss, I literally had to drag him to the store, past the archway.
We looked in the store for a bit & decided to leave.  Steven started going out the front door, but I told him there is a back door that leads right to where we were parked.  He said no, & made me go the longer, colder way.  Steven is usually all about efficiency & being warm, so I was really frustrated & confused.  We started walking through the archway to our car, when he stopped, pulled something from his jacket, got down on one knee, & started saying something.  I was SO surprised I just remembering nodding my head & hugging him.
What I didn't know was that earlier that day Steven had planned with my roommates that he was going to propose there.  So all of the sudden out pops Kelli, Melanie, my mom, & his brother!!! They had been watching/filming/taking pictures!
It was a big surprise.
So, planning a wedding, finals, & moving out of your apartment is a lot to take on, but we made it through.  Only with the help of great family & friends was our wedding amazing!!!
We are now happily married & hermits living in Lehi.
